A Traffic Exchange, By Any Other Name Is A... |
| Posted by Administrator (admin) on Aug 05 2009 |
There are many sites that claim to provide a way for website owners to gain low or no cost visitors. In exchange for driving visitors to the site members of the exchange can earn credits which in some cases can be converted to cash and in most instances can be converted to advertisements on the exchange. These advertisements are then viewed by the members of the exchange and when clicked on, result in traffic to the advertised site. The question is, does this method of driving traffic work? Or a better question is, does this method of driving traffic result in conversions to sales.
While nothing is perfect, you can bet that traffic exchanges will drive traffic to your site. So if your goal is to increase the number of eyeballs looking at your website's pages, then you will probably be happy with the result. However, if your goal is to get those eyeballs to read a sales letter and to purchase your product, you will most likely find that your conversion rates will be nearly non-existent. Why?
Simply by the nature of the exchange, everyone on the Traffic Exchange site has nearly the same goal. Their goal is to get traffic to their site. To do this, they need to earn or purchase "credits" so that their ads will display on the exchange and people will click on them to arrive at their site. There isn't a motivation to purchase the products or services on the exchange, unless the viewer of the ads arrived there simply to search for that particular product or service. This is highly unlikely simply because the whole purpose of the site is to earn enough credits to have your site displayed in the exchange to generate traffic.
It’s a vicious circle. While there are some who have had success with this strategy, we have not found this system very profitable. There are several you can join for free - and then of course there are several paid upgrades that are available which purport to help you make even more money. We have never upgraded to the paid products in our testing, so we cannot speak to their effectiveness. Our own experience has shown that the only thing we increased after using a traffic exchange, is the amount of spam that comes in to our mailbag.
Our recommendation: find a more effective way to generate traffic, like creating useful, interesting content. You'd be amazed at how much traffic you receive and where your conversion rates will go when you provide useful, intriguing information to your visitors.
